The handles on your doors wear out with time and require to be replaced. When replacing them, it is important that the new handles conform to the exact dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however when this isn't possible, you may remove it to take measurements. It is essential to avoid having a cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it susceptible to lock snapping attacks.

The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a new direction. This can help to deflect an attack and protect your door.

There are cylinders that are constructed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a faster and simpler method to gain access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which could make it difficult to prove insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is situated inside the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to help return your multipoint lock handles back to their resting position after usage. These handles used to have no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was disengaged. This simple part is the most effective way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the open or closed position as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They won't work with handles that aren't sprung and you'll have to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are fitted with a square cut-out that accommodates an 8mm spindle and are sold as a set.
