Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increased global demand.

Our service is private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our fees for assessments include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation You will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, by video link or over the phone). Your physician will go over the various medication options available. If you decide to begin medication, we will offer you to titrate your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medicines before you can find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is important that parents participate in the titration for adhd and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can inform the doctor if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment, your medication will be given as a private prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you will be able to book follow up appointments with the psychiatrist, as necessary. The appointment is usually done by video conference using zoom. However, in some circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options we have and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage as well as an examination of any side effects you might be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history, the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any mental health issues you might be experiencing. This is because ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is important to examine any family history that might suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

It is important that you are honest and truthful with the clinician during the assessment, since the information they receive will be used to determine whether your ADHD meets the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step because the wrong diagnosis can result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you've decided that you'd like to be treated for your ADHD We will set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this field. If you'd like to begin treatment immediately you can start treatment at the time of diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and your options.

If you aren't sure what is titration in adhd you would prefer, we suggest that you talk to your GP prior to booking your private examination as some providers have different rules regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic to get a medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who seek an official diagnosis of ADHD medication is a key aspect of their journey. It isn't easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to request your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can pick a provider that provides an assessment that is private and titration. This can reduce your wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient when you are working and have a hectic schedule.

Once you've been referred, your clinician will examine your condition to determine if you need medication adjustment. You will be asked to fill in forms that are different for each provider, but the most important ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor to determine if there are reasons that suggest that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, even in the event that they've been prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, this will usually be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be carefully tested and monitored to find the most effective combination for you, taking into consideration any medical conditions you may have. The process of titration meaning adhd can be lengthy and may require a few extra appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.

human-givens-institute-logo.pngBased on the type of medication you are taking, follow up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check whether you are stable on the medication, document any side effects you've experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dose. You'll also have to undergo a regular health check, which could include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual check-up.

Some people may be satisfied with their treatment and don't require discussing their titration in more detail. If, however, they require further discussions regarding their titration and treatment plans, it is possible that they will be referred back to the same private clinic that made their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be part of their consultation fee, and they will receive their medication on an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
