Diablo 4 Item Upgrades

Item upgrades allow players to increase the item level of equippable items such as weapons or armor, as well as trinkets up to a certain amount. They can be done at any upgrader NPC with the appropriate currency.

There is no viable solution to the "not worth" feeling that some players feel when they upgrade certain items. The game should provide more information on its compare interface about an upgrade, such as: "X stats gained, or X stats loss." This is not practical to implement due to the complexity of the process. There is simply not enough space to do it correctly in the UI.

A script that examines the requirements of an item's upgrade before allowing the item to be upgraded is a different option. Depending on the type of item, upgrading it may cost Dilithium or gold. Some upgrades also require Flightstones or crests. The amount of crests or Flightstones required to upgrade an item is contingent on the level of the gear, and a maximum upgrade level is set by Blizzard. Upgrades to the highest level are costly particularly when it comes to upgrading PvE equipment.

Upgrades can also modify a weapon's ammunition, or damage die size. They can also change its special weapon properties, such as its unwieldy or operational property, or its hand requirement. Some upgrades can change the appearance of a weapon.

Before deciding on a purchase it is important to consider the costs involved in upgrading an item. Spend your gold on rare items, and not on items of the standard or magic tier. These items are not worth upgrading, and rare equipment will soon surpass them.

If you're unsure about whether upgrading is worth it, ask your fellow guild members for advice. It's possible to get better upgrades for less costs.
