Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was an ode to the classic sextet format and an even more consistent and powerful effort with a harder edge. Its edgier sound was indicative of the maturation of group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's improved ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work was more refined, sharper and less cloned earlier recordings.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album followed shortly after, and the band embarked on a long-distance tour in support of it.
