Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service is private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation You will be advised if medication would be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link or over the phone). Your physician will explain to you the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks, and involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not unusual to have to titrate three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. Parents must participate in this titration period adhd process, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a private prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You will be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to schedule appointment with the psychiatrist, as appropriate. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call, although in certain cases it is possible to have an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).

We will then go over treatment options and decide on an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication titration. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage as well as a discussion around any side effects you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The doctor will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, including any issues with your relationships that you may be experiencing or other mental health issues you may be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is essential to look into any family history that may indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

It is crucial to be honest and transparent to the doctor during this assessment, as the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step, since a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD We'll set up an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this field. If you want to start treatment immediately, you can do this when you are diagnosed. Or you can wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what is titration in adhd options you have.

If you aren't sure what is adhd titration you would prefer We suggest you talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private examination as some providers have different policies about whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them after you leave the clinic to get a prescription medication.

Medication

The medication process is an essential aspect of the treatment process for many people who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It can be difficult to get prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Inquiring your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means you can select one that provides a private assessment and titration service. This will cut down your waiting time significantly and is more convenient if you are working and have a busy schedule.

If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment, your chosen clinician will examine you and decide whether or not you need to be adjusted on your medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that are different for each provider, but the most important ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. These will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration can be a lengthy process and may require a number of additional appointments before you are stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. Your physician will make sure whether you are safe with the medication, document any side effects that you've experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a safe dose. You will be required to go to an annual health check-up and routine health examination which includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some people might be satisfied with their medication, and therefore do not need to discuss their titration in more detail. If you're required to discuss your titration or treatment plan further it is likely that you'll be referred to the private clinic that performed your initial evaluation. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in the consultation fee, and they will be given their medication on private adhd medication titration prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than a prescription from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
