UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time the handles on your doors will get worn out and require replacement. It is important to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever door handle is a modern handle that can be used on replacement or new doors. This style of door handle is available in a variety of styles & finishes. A number of manufacturers offer this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

The upvc window locking handles/Composite door handles are constructed of durable materials and are perfect for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline and run from the same spindle and screw fixings so they can be easily incorporated into new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be positioned and angled to suit any user. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles, this will ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The lever that springs is adjustable to fit a wide range of locks. This is useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is further away from the door. A lever that is shorter is an ideal choice for doors where the latch can be operated by a thumb turn located on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. These handles can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are commonly used on UPVC doors with double glazing and come in a variety of finishes & variations.

The handles are available in a variety of finishes, including White Chrome and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This gives the handle an outstanding performance and durability for its intended use.

The backplate fixing centers of 211mm allow for a larger size of handle which can often be a benefit when replacing a window handle a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. It is crucial to ensure that the dimensions of the PZ for both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when choosing the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also called 'handle centre' or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the right handles.

After you have determined the correct PZ size, you will need to ensure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. They are usually rectangular or round in shape, with an internal lever and external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they return to their horizontal position when not in use, rather than hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This keeps draughts out of the property. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC handle lever pad style handles are swivel which allows you to place them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. Cylinder locks are operated with a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. This reveals pins that can be aligned to those inside the lock and allow them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins, with internal and external doors usually needing different levels of security.

Choosing the right cylinder is crucial; it is dependent on how your doors and handles are utilized. Doors that are external, for instance should be equipped with cylinders with greater security and internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders come with additional features that can improve security further, such as anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

A euro cylinder should be measured correctly to ensure it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to each end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this with the lock in place, but if this is not possible, you may take it off to measure. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks, such as lock snapping, so it is important that it's not too long.

The majority of modern cylinders have been made with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. They are designed to decrease attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a different direction. This will help to deflect the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and simpler method to gain access than through the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which could hinder insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located in the base plate of your door handle. It provides a sprung solution to bring the multipoint lock handles to their resting position after use. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was disconnected. Adding this simple component is one of the best methods to correct this and it is also an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in the open or closed position, as they aren't always easy to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with sprung multipoint locks. They will not fit unsprung handles and you'll need to cut a hole in the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please look at the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are fitted with a square cut out which can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and are sold as a set.

These spring cassettes offer a great value solution to the issue of door handles that have become sagging. They are easy to fit and will increase the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
